Midnimo Women Network is a prominent organization established in 2020, dedicated to advocating for the empowerment of women and children in Somalia. Our mission is to foster a democratic society where women, children, and men are equally valued. Currently, MIDNIMO represents 55 women-led organizations across Puntland and maintains operational offices in all nine regions of Puntland, with additional representatives in Nairobi, Finland, the UK, Sweden, and the USA.
The Midnimo Women Network serves as a collective voice for women committed to fighting for their socio-economic and political rights as equal citizens of Somalia. Our structure includes a General Assembly representing member organizations, which elects nine board members responsible for providing strategic guidance. The daily operations are managed by the Executive Director and a dedicated secretariat.
MIDNIMO WOMEN NETWORK involves in policy advocacy seek changes to frameworks that impact to the community, we advocate on behalf of people from underserved, underrepresented, and marginalized and minority groups, addressing policies that impact their lives and well-being. Actions include speaking out against policies that further disenfranchise such individuals, reduce or eliminate their funding for resources, or impede access to programs for their communities, we also write policy briefs that inform the public, news media outlets, and lawmakers to generate support for funding, services, and protection.

Impact Metrics
Since our inception, we have empowered over 10,000 women and girls through educational programs and advocacy initiatives, influencing local policies to enhance gender equality.
Our network is closely connected to the broader women’s movement across Somalia, uniting various organizations that represent diverse groups, including women with disabilities, rural communities, and internally displaced persons.

Midnimo Women Network operates across all nine regions of Puntland, ensuring comprehensive outreach and support.
Each regional office actively engages in local advocacy, educational initiatives, and empowerment programs tailored to the specific needs of the communities they serve. Our presence in these areas allows us to address the unique challenges faced by women and children in both urban and rural settings, fostering collaboration and community involvement in our mission.
Midnimo Women Network focuses on six key thematic areas:
Promoting women's engagement in political processes and ensuring the enforcement of legal frameworks that uphold their rights.
Championing the rights of women and girls to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and equitable access to employment opportunities and resources.
Advocating for the prevention of all forms of violence against women and children, including FGM/C, torture, exploitation, harassment, and other forms of physical and mental abuse.
Promoting legal and policy reforms aimed at gender mainstreaming and enhancing protections for women and children’s rights.

To significantly increase women’s involvement in political decision-making and peacebuilding efforts in Somalia.

To actively involve women in peacekeeping, mediation, and conflict resolution processes, thereby contributing to sustainable peace in Somalia.

Midnimo organized workshops on gender equality for community leaders and policymakers in partnership with local NGOs and the local government of Garowe under the Danwadaag project, impacting 300 participants.

Midnimo partnered with Puntland Youth Ambarella (PYAN) to provide training in digital skills and online safety for 500 women.

The Midnimo Women Network collaborated with MOJCRAR to engage 120 community members and organize advocacy events with 30 parliamentarians for the bill's approval.

Midnimo partnered with SIHA Network to conduct capacity-building workshops for 100 women’s rights organizations and host conferences with 60 women politicians.

Midnimo worked with various local NGOs to train women leaders in mediation techniques, establishing Women’s Peace Committees in conflict-affected areas.

Midnimo partnered with the Puntland Youth Network to train 100 young women and men in leadership skills and community engagement.

Midnimo collaborated with local health NGOs to conduct workshops on maternal and child health, reaching over 500 women in rural areas.
8. From 2022 to 2023
Midnimo partnered with the International Development Agency to launch microfinance initiatives that provided small loans to 200 women entrepreneurs, resulting in the establishment of 150 small businesses.
Fatima, a 32-year-old mother of three, received a small loan through Midnimo’s Economic Empowerment Program and opened a tailoring shop. Her business now supports her family and has created jobs for two local women. “Midnimo believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself,” she says proudly.
