Midnimo Women Network, in partnership with Nagaad Network and the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA), under We Cannot wait- WCW project recently organized a landmark two-day annual National Gender Forum in Garowe Puntland

. This gathering brought together women from various backgrounds and professions, including women police officers, highest-ranking female commanders, journalists, young athletes, lawyers, healthcare professionals, political activists, and government officials. The forum served as a platform for participants to collaboratively develop and refine advocacy strategies, share agendas, exchange knowledge and experiences, discuss gender-related challenges, and plan for a more inclusive and equitable future, The event witnessed participation from an array of influential groups and individuals, fostering a rich exchange of ideas and experiences. Key cordial invitros, attendees including women involved in political participation movements and committees, representatives from the Midnimo Women Network, government officials, and former deputy Ministers of Women’s development and family affairs. The National Gender Forum culminated in developing comprehensive advocacy agendas and plans. Participants gained a space to exchange experiences, and best practices, fostering collaboration and solidarity among diverse women’s groups. It strengthened the commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment in Puntland, with a focus on collective action and inclusivity. It also exemplifies the power of collaboration and dialogue in addressing gender-related challenges and serves as a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in Somalia/Puntland inspiring women from all backgrounds to work together towards a more equitable and inclusive society. The momentum generated during this forum is expected to drive significant progress in the realm of gender equality for all spheres in the region. The event’s goal was to ensure that women are empowered as an integral part of all laws, policies, programs, and Strategies both government institutions and the private sector as well as Civil society so as to achieve equality in the cultural, social, political, and economic spheres.
